Public holidays in Romania 2026

Counting Saturday and Sunday as the weekend, 11 of the 16 holiday dates in 2026 fall on a working day and 5 on a weekend. 1 date carries more than one holiday, which is why the table lists 17 names for 16 dates. The most common weekday for a holiday is Friday, with 4 dates.

Seven of the 16 dates land on a Monday or Friday, next to the weekend, so they make a long weekend without using any leave: New Year's Day on Friday, January 2, Good Friday on Friday, April 10, Easter on Monday, April 13, Labor Day on Friday, May 1, Children's Day / Pentecost on Monday, June 1, Saint Andrew's Day on Monday, November 30, and 1 more. One more holiday sits one working day away from the weekend, so a single day of leave turns it into a four-day break: Epiphany on Tuesday, January 6 (take Monday off).

January is the busiest month, with 5 holiday dates. Five months have no public holiday at all (February, March, July, September and October). The longest stretch between two holidays is 107 days, from Dormition of the Mother of God on August 15 to Saint Andrew's Day on November 30, the natural window for a longer break.

2027 brings 17 public holidays, the same number as 2026. 9 of the 17 dates fall on a working day, and 4 land next to the weekend.
