Counting Saturday and Sunday as the weekend, 9 of the 10 holiday dates in 2026 fall on a working day and 1 on a weekend.
Counting Saturday and Sunday as the weekend, 9 of the 10 holiday dates in 2026 fall on a working day and 1 on a weekend. The most common weekday for a holiday is Monday, with 6 dates.
Seven of the 10 dates land on a Monday or Friday, next to the weekend, so they make a long weekend without using any leave: Saint Brigid's Day on Monday, February 2, Easter Monday on Monday, April 6, May Day on Monday, May 4, June Bank Holiday on Monday, June 1, August Bank Holiday on Monday, August 3, October Bank Holiday on Monday, October 26, and 1 more. Two more holidays sit one working day away from the weekend, so a single day of leave turns each into a four-day break: New Year's Day on Thursday, January 1 (take Friday off) and Saint Patrick's Day on Tuesday, March 17 (take Monday off).
December is the busiest month, with 2 holiday dates. July, September and November have no public holiday at all. The longest stretch between two holidays is 84 days, from August Bank Holiday on August 3 to October Bank Holiday on October 26, the natural window for a longer break.
2027 brings 10 public holidays, the same number as 2026. 8 of the 10 dates fall on a working day, and 7 land next to the weekend.
The .ics files import into Google Calendar, Outlook and Apple Calendar as all-day events.
