Counting Saturday and Sunday as the weekend, 9 of the 12 holiday dates in 2026 fall on a working day and 3 on a weekend.
Counting Saturday and Sunday as the weekend, 9 of the 12 holiday dates in 2026 fall on a working day and 3 on a weekend. The most common weekday for a holiday is Thursday or Friday, with 3 dates.
Three of the 12 dates land on a Monday or Friday, next to the weekend, so they make a long weekend without using any leave: Good Friday on Friday, April 3, May Day on Friday, May 1 and Christmas Day on Friday, December 25. Four more holidays sit one working day away from the weekend, so a single day of leave turns each into a four-day break: New Year's Day on Thursday, January 1 (take Friday off), Independence Day on Tuesday, February 24 (take Monday off), Victory Day on Tuesday, June 23 (take Monday off) and Independence Restoration Day on Thursday, August 20 (take Friday off).
December is the busiest month, with 3 holiday dates. Five months have no public holiday at all (March, July, September, October and November). The longest stretch between two holidays is 126 days, from Independence Restoration Day on August 20 to Christmas Eve on December 24, the natural window for a longer break.
2027 brings 12 public holidays, the same number as 2026. 7 of the 12 dates fall on a working day, and 4 land next to the weekend.
