Public holidays in Bulgaria 2026

Counting Saturday and Sunday as the weekend, 13 of the 15 holiday dates in 2026 fall on a working day and 2 on a weekend. The most common weekday for a holiday is Monday or Friday, with 4 dates.

Eight of the 15 dates land on a Monday or Friday, next to the weekend, so they make a long weekend without using any leave: Non-working day on Friday, January 2, Good Friday on Friday, April 10, Easter on Monday, April 13, Labor Day and International Workers' Solidarity Day on Friday, May 1, Day of Slavonic Alphabet, Bulgarian Enlightenment and Culture (observed) on Monday, May 25, Unification Day (observed) on Monday, September 7, and 2 more. Two more holidays sit one working day away from the weekend, so a single day of leave turns each into a four-day break: Liberation Day on Tuesday, March 3 (take Monday off) and Independence Day on Tuesday, September 22 (take Monday off).

April is the busiest month, with 4 holiday dates. Six months have no public holiday at all (February, June, July, August, October and November). The longest stretch between two holidays is 105 days, from Day of Slavonic Alphabet, Bulgarian Enlightenment and Culture (observed) on May 25 to Unification Day (observed) on September 7, the natural window for a longer break.

3 entries are observed, substitute or bridge days that move holidays onto working days, for example Day of Slavonic Alphabet, Bulgarian Enlightenment and Culture (observed) on May 25.

2027 brings 14 public holidays, 1 holiday fewer than 2026. 12 of the 14 dates fall on a working day, and 7 land next to the weekend.
